The President of the Republic, Danilo Medina Sánchez, inaugurated today the facilities of the country's first factory for rubber boots for rain and snow, operated by DJM Footwear Corporation.
The factory is located in the Tamboril Free Trade Zone in Santiago and is a subsidiary of the Chinese corporation Ningshing Holdings, a global leader in the production of rubber footwear.
A press release from the Presidency states that DJM Footwear Corporation is the second manufacturing company with investment from the People's Republic of China to establish operations under the Free Trade Zone regime in the Republic. The event began with remarks from businessman Mícalo Bermúdez, president of the Tamboril Free Trade Zone, who expressed gratitude for the trust placed by the multinational Ningshing Holdings in setting up its operations in the zone. Bermúdez highlighted the more than 21 years of experience this park has in developing industries in the footwear sector for export.
From the Dominican government, Luisa Fernández Durán, executive director of the National Free Trade Zone Council, stated that the new operations of this company will provide formal job opportunities for the residents of Tamboril and surrounding communities. “In fact, in the first year of operations, DJM Footwear will generate 500 new direct jobs and over 1,000 indirect jobs,” the press release notes.
The inauguration event concluded with remarks from Yingan Wu, president of Ningshing Holdings, who thanked the Dominican government for facilitating the establishment of the company in the country. Wu explained that the decision and strategy to build a rubber footwear factory in the country was based on the geopolitical, economic, and commercial conditions that the Dominican Republic offers for the development of its productive activities.
